Like most of my work, these monoprints are drawn from found photographs and reflect my interest in the sensuality and spirituality of men.

In each of this series of full-face portraits of anonymous bearded men, a length of thread was placed between the plate and paper. The thread lines break the image into jigsaw shapes and become a sort of screen through which each face is viewed, similar to the way a beard can be both a projection of masculine identity and of mask for the individual. The threads are analogous to the hairs of the beards and to the lines of the drawings.

Each pair includes the original monoprint and the second or “ghost” print. By placing the two prints together, the viewer compares differences in the color, tone, and the sinuous line that seems to tie them together.
