(May 1, 2003 -San Francisco) This is a historic event you dare not miss! For the first time ever, the nation's most celebrated Latina legends of Queer Comedy - Marga Gomez, Monica Palacios, and Carmelita Tropicana - will take to the same stage in ¡COMEDY, POR FAVOR!, proving Marga has flava, Monica has spice, and Tropicana has juice. Representing their Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican and Gemini heritage with material as fresh as they are, these caliente mamacitas will do solo turns and come together in an explosive configuration of satire, Thursday-Sunday, June 12-15th, with performances on June 12-14th at 8:00pm; Sunday, June 15th at 7:00pm, all at the SomArts Theater (934 Brannan Street @ 8th) in San Francisco. These Latina comic divas will take the stage as part of the National Queer Arts Festival (NQAF), a festival produced each year during the month of June to celebrate and promote the work of local, national and international queer artists. NQAF 2003 includes a wide array of multidisciplinary art and programs, and this yearÕs festival will kick off with the THE Q BALL on Saturday, May 31st, at The SF LGBT Community Center @ 6pm (1800 Market Street @ Octavia) with FREE food and drink, performances, music, and more! NQAF 2003 festivities continue through June 29th in various venues throughout San Francisco.

This event will be held at SomArts Theater (934 Brannan Street @ 8th). Friday performance ASL interpreted. Tickets prices are $22 (Fri/Sat), $20 (Thu/Sun). Info & Box (415) 3340-Qcc or www.queerculturalcenter.org. NQAF events will be held at venues throughout San Francisco through the month of June. For tickets, event details and artists biographies, please visit www.queerculturalcenter.org.

Can NQAF 2003 contain them? NO! No one (or no three!) like Marga Gomez, Monica Palacios, and Carmelita Tropicana can bring lip smacking, thigh-whacking comedy to the stage quite like these Latina Legends of Queer Comedy can! Audiences will roll in delight as they witness Marga sharpening her repertoire of down and dirty, mystical, banginÕ comedy units. Her stand-up act will cover testicles, Big Foot, multiculturalism on The Bachelor television show, the Latin explosion, lesbian sex clubs, presidential cloning, indie haircuts, Craig's List, and the end of civilization. Marga, who will be one of the Grand Marshalls of SF Pride 2003, will graciously give the audience an exclusive preview of her parade wave and Grand Marshall thong!

Carmelita and Pingalito chomp cigars on tasty subjects such as New York, Spanglish, and Love LATIN style. Carmelita TropicanaÕs lessons in Spanglish proves sheÕs good with the Tongue - in her new role of Doctora of Love she dispenses advice and no subject is taboo. Her drag persona of Pingalito Betancourt, the Cuban Antonio Banderas and retired bus driver, will have lesbians swooning. Her comedy has been called "brilliant, irreverent...and sometimes even vulgar." Take it from John Leguizamo of "Freak" Tropicana: "will make you cry in one eye laugh in the other." And there is Monica, bringing to the stage, part stand up, part performance, part chihuahua. Experience her poignant revelations on chicks, sex and food, and most likely a song - cuz she's got a mariachi soul. In between their solo turns, the three chicas will pepper the evening with comedy sketches diva-style!

In January, Marga, Carmelita and Monica were awarded for their long careers as Out Latina Artists by LLEGO, a national LGBT Latino Organization. In addition, Monica has been awarded a Rockefeller Fellowship, Carmelita is the recipient of Off-Broadway's Obie Award, and Marga has been chosen to serve as Grand Marshall of the 2003 SF Pride March.
