(May 1, 2003 - San Francisco) Produced each year during Pride month by the Queer Cultural Center (Qcc), the National Queer Arts Festival (NQAF) celebrates and promotes the work of local, national and international queer artists, and is dedicated to encompassing the queer community's full diversity. Like past years, NQAF 2003 shows a strong contingent of nationally known and locally grown Latina/o artists such as MARGA GOMEZ, MONICA PALACIOS, CARMELITA TROPICANA, ARMANDO RASCÓN, Ricardo Bracho, Carla Lucero and Alicia Gaspar de Alba, Gigi Otalvaro-Hormillosa and others! This tour-de-force uses blistering stand-up comedy, poignant imagery, dramatic performance, and powerful language, to activate, address and explore the experiences and challenges of being Latina/o and queer. NQAF 2003 includes a wide array of multidisciplinary art and programs, and this year's festival will kick off with the THE Q BALL on Saturday, May 31st, at The SF LGBT Community Center @ 6pm (1800 Market Street @ Octavia) with FREE food and drink, performances, music, and more! NQAF 2003 festivities continue through June 29th in various venues throughout San Francisco.

"QUERIDO" - Staged Reading of Ricardo BrachoÕs New Play
Ricardo Bracho's new play is an adaptation of Jean GenetÕs novel and Rainer Werner Fassbinder's film, Querelle. Bracho is the recipient of a George Houston Bass Award, a PanelistÕs Choice Award from the Edward Albee Theatre Festival in Valdez, Alaska, and a Dean Goodman Choice Award for Outstanding Playwriting. THE SIZE OF HER RAGE - Queer Latina and Mixed-Race Artists Respond to Domestic Violence
The Size of Her Rage features writing, performance and video, by local artists Bertha Amador, Cathy Arellano, Veronica Majano, Gigi Otalvaro-Hormillosa, and Karla E. Rosales, and is a creative approach to building community and continuing the necessary discussion on the prevalence of domestic violence in same-gender female couples. The five artists bring diverse ideas of race, socio/economics, butch/femme, and other identity politics to the performance. A Q & A session with the artists will immediately follow the performance. A historic event you dare not miss! For the first time ever, the nation's most celebrated Latina legends of queer comedy - Marga Gomez, Monica Palacios, and Carmelita Tropicana - will take to the same stage, proving Marga has flava, Monica has spice, and Tropicana has juice. Representing their Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican and Gemini heritage with material as fresh as they are, these caliente mamacitas will do solo turns and come together in an explosive configuration of satire. Monica has been awarded a Rockefeller Fellowship, Carmelita is the recipient of Off-Broadway's Obie Award, and Marga has been chosen to serve as Grand Marshall of the 2003 SF Pride March.
