Grants for Artists –Creating Queer Community 2002
Sunday, June 23; 2-4 pm
SF LGBT Community Center, 1800 Market St

The June 2003 National Queer Arts Festival will have a strong emphasis on the examination of the numerous expressions of gender and gender-identity within the queer communities. In keeping with this theme, "Creating Queer Community" a program of Qcc and HMI, will provide grants between $500 and $1,500 to four to six inventive projects in any artistic medium that address issues of gender/gender-identity. Projects that are multicultural in their approach or methodology are strongly encouraged.

To be eligible to apply, you must attend this two-hour workshop (there are no exceptions), which will feature presentations by artists who have originated projects that exemplify the program's community-building and diversification goals. At the workshop's conclusion, you can submit a brief written statement about your project. A peer-review panel of queer artists will identify the most promising projects and invite the finalists to an interview. Evaluation criteria include: artistic integrity and originality, community impact, and the applicant's capacity to complete the project.

Creating Queer Community 2001 Grant Recipients: Shellac Magazine, Darshan Elena Campos, Jesselito Bie, Emael, and Alison Wright
