Chrystos
Sunday, June 16; 2pm
Location: SF LGBT Community Center, 1800 Market St @ Octavia, 4th Floor

Dominant culture has made a mandate to push Native American people to a place of invisibility and erasure. Without going into the historic need for this genocide, which stems from land claims and treaty rights, the speaker seeks to address this same invisibility which occurs in queer culture, particularly concerning the work of Indian lesbian writer activists. Audience members will be introduced to a number of authors, will read from their work, receive a bibliography of works, and some copies of titles for sale. Chrystos will explain the invisibility, the "three strike" theory of publishing, and there will be a question and answer period following the presentation. Some of the authors include: Connie Fife, Beth Brant, Deborah Miranda, Janice Gould, and Barbara Cameron. There will also be a mention of the work of Gloria Anzaldua, who discusses being Indios in her work.
