Artistic Director’s Statement

Welcome to the 2011 National Queer Arts Festival

A Sustainable Queer Planet

When we discussed this theme for the 2011 National Queer Arts Festival, we were thinking of all the definitions of “sustainable.” We wanted to bring to the fore queer ecological movements but we also wanted to look at the ways that queers sustain ourselves: what things sustain us, keep us going when we might drop; what things feed us so that we can continue?

We have many intriguing, challenging artistic answers in this Festival! Join us and you will see some of the finest performers, poets, writers, visual artists, musicians, comedians and dancers look to our history for inspiration or create all new solutions from their collaborations that will inspire future generations.

Queers have a unique way of creating solutions, organizations, friendships and political movements—come start a revolution of Sustainability with the Queer Cultural Center.
