“Cancer Ballet A & B”

We are two artists in love, so when Annie was diagnosed on April Fool’s Day, 2005, we braved our war against breast cancer together, utilizing our creativity and our passion for each other to cope. We shaved each other’s heads when we started chemo, then posed for erotic photos while totally bald, thus creating a new genre of erotica – cancer erotica! Our motto is “eroticize everything.” Then we got copies of Annie’s radiation treatment plans from her doctor. Eventually we collaged and juxtaposed old pin-up photos of Annie (the eroticized breasts) with the new scans and MRI images (the medicalized breasts), and other scraps and ephemera. This process helped us take something painful and scary and make it into something interesting and useful.
