“La Sagrada Famila” Series

 

Inspired by Spanish and Latin /American religious iconography, he creates mixed media pieces that border assemblage. Using acrylics, discarded HIV/AIDS medicine bottles, cloth, jewels and US currency, Rocabado creates pieces of singular appeal; aesthetically beautiful, yet thematically macabre. Behind the gentle paces portrayed on his canvases, hides a deeper truth; one that is dark, haunting and all too often, a familiar reality.
