Artist's Statement

In this project, called "Reply To This Post" I take m4m craigslist ads, draw the photo, and then repost these drawings on a blog.  Society has become so focused on online communities, sharing information through blogs, and seeing private information in a public way.  The notion that current queer sexuality can be broadcast and perused is a direct contradiction to the way queer culture historically had to hide itself.  Conversely, tried and true supportive communities existed in those eras, whereas contemporary ideas of being a part of a community are loose, fluid, and often disconnected from human contact.

This project records the way a portion of the queer community expresses it's sexuality and finds the contact it is looking for in this age of technology.

The images attached here are taken from the blog I have been posting them on. You can see the rest of the images by visiting: www.replytothispost.tumblr.com

I have printed out PDFs of the Reply To This Post blog and pinned them to the gallery wall.  This follows the natural progression of photographing oneself, posting the photograph, me drawing the photograph and then posting it to the website, then printing it off and putting it on a wall for viewers (reality, virtual reality, reality, virtual reality, and finally reality again).  Also available would be a stack of cards for viewers to take away.  One one side would be an image of a drawing, the other would have the blog address for the viewer to take home to continue participating in the process by viewing the images that are updated on a daily basis.
