I Will Be Your Fortress

This painting is inspired by a photo taken at a “kiss-in” in front of the Salt Lake temple in 2009, protesting the arrest of two young men (by Mormon security officers) for kissing on a public passageway between the Mormon temple and church office buildings. It is a setting commonly used for couples (marrying in the temple) to be photographed kissing. The walled, guarded temple disallows gays from entry and any form of homosexual behavior is disallowed on the grounds, even though part of the grounds are a public walkway which legally guarantees human rights.
